A wealthy merchant traveling through a bustling market dropped a pouch containing 100 gold coins. Later, a poor farmer found the pouch and decided to return it. He took it to the merchant and said, “I found your pouch of coins near the market.”
The merchant counted the coins and realized they were all there. However, greed took over, and he decided to test the farmer’s honesty. “There were 200 coins in this pouch,” the merchant lied. “You must have taken the rest!”
The Farmer’s Response
The farmer, shocked, said, “I didn’t take anything. This is exactly how I found the pouch.”
The argument grew, and soon, both men were brought before the village judge. The judge listened to their accounts and said, “Let me see the pouch.”
The Judge’s Wisdom
After examining the pouch, the judge said, “This pouch can only hold 100 coins, not 200. Merchant, you have lied in your greed. The farmer’s honesty is evident, and he will keep the coins as a reward for his integrity.”

One day, while chopping wood near a river, his axe slipped from his hands and fell into the water. The river was deep, and the woodcutter couldn’t retrieve it.
Distraught, Ram sat by the river, wondering how he would continue earning a living without his only axe. Suddenly, the water rippled, and a beautiful goddess emerged from the river.
“What troubles you, woodcutter?” the goddess asked.
“My axe has fallen into the river, and I cannot fetch it. Without it, I cannot provide for my family,” Ram replied honestly.
The Goddess’ Test
The goddess smiled and said, “Wait here, and I will retrieve your axe.” She dived into the water and returned with a shining golden axe. “Is this your axe?” she asked.
Ram looked at the golden axe and shook his head. “No, that’s not mine. My axe was simple and made of iron.”
The goddess dived again and returned with a silver axe. “Is this your axe?”
Again, Ram shook his head. “No, mine was just an old iron axe.”
Finally, the goddess dived a third time and brought back an old, rusty iron axe. “Is this the axe you lost?”
“Yes!” Ram exclaimed. “This is my axe!”
The Reward for Honesty
The goddess was pleased with Ram’s honesty. She said, “Because you were truthful, I will give you all three axes—the golden, silver, and iron ones—as a reward.”
